The Kerala government today requested the Centre to permit the mortal remains of A P J Abdul Kalam to be brought to the state to enable people to pay homage to him.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy requested that the mortal remains of Kalam be brought here on its way to Rameswaram, where the last rites are to be performed.
"This is to enable the people of Kerala to pay their last respects to the former President" who had spend nearly two decades of his scientific career at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre here, he said.

The letter was sent through Kerala House in New Delhi by around 10 am today before the Union Cabinet met, a release from Chief Minister's office said.
