Kerala today asked the Centre to speed up measures to set up the much-delayed rail coach factory in Palakkad district.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a letter to Union Minister for Railways Malikarjun Kharge pointed out that the Kerala government has handed over 239 acres of land to the railways on August 17, 2012 when the foundation-stone of the factory laid.
Further with the approval of the Union Cabinet, on September 25, 2012, Railway Board Chairman sought six month's time to implement the project.

Chandy said the delay in starting the project invited severe criticism from the Opposition and the media in Kerala.
The government of Kerala was also blamed for not putting the required pressure on the Centre to get the project through.
