Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will launch the initial phase of the Technology Innovation Zone (TIZ) at the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park at nearby Kalamassery on Monday.

Through TIZ, an ambitious project under Technopark - Technology Business Incubator (TBI), the state government aims to offer incubation facilities for start-ups in sectors such as telecom and IT, agriculture, tourism, electronics and biotechnology. The facility offers aspiring entrepreneurs support for everything from conceptualization, mentoring and infrastructure to networking with potential angel investors.

PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju will preside over the function.

The new 10,000 sqft space will house around 40 start-up firms. The operations at the zone will be under Startup Village, while the implementing authority of the 150-crore project is the Technopark-TBI based in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

The project is spread across 13.2 acres at Kinfra Park. Work on the remaining buildings is progressing and will be completed by the end of 2016.

Once fully operational, TIZ will have a total built-up area of over 3,00,000 sqft and will have all amenities of a futuristic business incubator, including fab-labs (fabrication labs) and a data centre, apart from a convention centre, food courts and an exhibition lounge.

"The TIZ will operate with an eye on the future and with the objective of sustaining the current entrepreneurship boom in the state, Hrishikesh Nair, Chief Executive Officer of both Infopark and the T-TBI, said.
