A Kerala-based film society is getting ready to commemmorate the 28th death anniversary of legendary filmmaker, late G Aravindan, one of the pioneers of parallel cinema in Malayalam.
The Chalachithra Film Society would organise a public function at Kalabhavan Theatre here to mark the life and filmography of the iconic director-scriptwriter on March 15.
The programme would start with 'ganasmrithi', a musical concert by famed singer Kavalam Srikumar, a release said here Saturday.
CPI(M) idealogue and former minister, M A Baby and film critic Vijayakrishnan would recollect the memories of Aravindan, a many-time recepient of national and state awards who had experimented unconventional ways of story telling in his movies.
"Vasthuhara", "Thambu", "Esthappan", "Chidambaram" and "Utharayanam" were some among the prominent movies of Aravindan, who was also an established cartoonist and screenwriter.
Eminent director Adoor Gopalakrishnan would present the 28th 'Aravindan Puraskaram', an annual award in his name given to the best debutant director.

Young filmmaker, Zakariya Mohammed bagged this year's honour for his movie "Sudani from Nigeria".
The members of the award jury, Shyamaprasad and Baiju Chandran, would be present during the occasion.
The award-winning movie would be screened during the function, the release added.
