Kerala girl succumbs to burn injuries at Coimbatore hospital

After battling for life for nearly a week, a 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly set ablaze by her lover at her home at nearby Kadamanitta, passed away at a hospital in Coimbatore today, police said.

The girl, who had been shifted to Coimbatore for treatment, died this morning, police here said.

The girl's body is expected to be brought to Kerala tomorrow, they added.

The victim had suffered 80 per cent burns after she was set ablaze by her boyfriend on July 14 night for refusing to accede to his request to step out of her house, police had said.
 

The 23-year-old accused, who was later arrested, had also suffered severe burns and his condition is serious, police added.
