"It is an Onam gift and greetings to migrant workers and to assure them that they are safe in the state," Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

Chandy said government would not allow anybody to threaten and intimidate migrant workers.

The Onam Kits with various food articles would be supplied through the Labour department. An amount of Rs.10 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose, Chandy said.

Chandy said he had assured Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi that workers from that state would be protected and there was no cause for worry when Gogoi called him over phone.

The kits would be distributed from August 25 and Onam festival, the harvest festival of the state, falls on August 29.

Asked about reports that Kerala based Popular Front of India (PFI) was behind sending the SMSs that triggered an exodus of workers from North-East states from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Chandy said government was examining the matter.

"If someone is found guilty, action would be taken as per law," Chandy added.
