Kerala govt appoints commission to study jail reforms

CPI(M)-led LDF government in Kerala today appointed a one-man commission to prepare a report on reforms to be implemented in prisons in the state.

A cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, appointed former DGP Alexander Jacob as the one-man Commission in this regard, an official release said here.

The former DGP is now serving as the nodal officer of National University for Police Science and Security Studies.

The cabinet also decided to appoint Rishikesh R Nair as the Chief Executive Officer of three major IT parks-Technopark here, Infopark at Kochi and Cyberpark in Kozhikode, it said.

An additional amount of Rs 75 lakh was granted as mess subsidy for police personnel on duty at the hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala during the ongoing Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival season.
 

A total of Rs one crore has already been allotted in this regard, the release said.
