Kerala govt asked to probe retrenchment of homeo teachers

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission today directed the state government to conduct a probe into retrenchment of some homeopathy teachers working on daily wages for the last 20 years.

They were retrenched without any prior intimation, the commission said.

They had been working at the Homeo college at nearby Iranimuttom and Kozhikode medical college.

Heath department principal secretary and the homeo medical college principal have been asked by the commission to give their explanation at its sitting here next month, a commission release said.

According to the release, 11 lecturers from the Homeo college were retrenched. When they were appointed 20 years ago, they were given Rs 50 as daily wage.
 

Currently their monthly salary is Rs 32,500, the release said.

The commission's direction was on the basis of a complaint received by it, it added.
