Kerala govt taking steps to develop tourism as global brand

Kerala government was taking efforts to develop the state tourism as a global brand in the domestic and international market, Chief Minister Ooman Chandy said here tonight.

"Our vision is that tourism should become vibrant and significant contributer to the development of the state. We are working on developing Kerala tourism as global brand in the domestic and international market," Chandy said in his inaugural address at the 29th Indian Association of Tour Operators conference here.

The state would also focus on providing training on quality human resources through training institutes of tourism and hospitality, he said.

Pointing that Kerala was open to investment in tourism sector, Chandy said priority would be given to small and medium investments.
 

The chief minister said that there was need to find ways of knowing needs of the tourists and create product and services based on that knowledge.

"We must keep novel ways to keep the tourists interest alive and make them visit a destination again and again," he said.

Union Ministers K V Thomas, K C Venugopal, state tourism minister A P Anilkumar, IATO president Subash Goel, additional Director, Tourism, Usha Sharma and Kerala tourism secretary Suman Billa were among those who delivered speeches at the conference.

About 1,500 delegates from all over the country are participating in the three-day conference.
