The Kerala government would take necessary steps to solve the problems faced by workers in the ailing plantation sector, state Minister for Labour and Excise T P Ramakrishnan today said.

The LDF government's plan was to provide houses to all workers in the sector in five years, he said, while speaking to reporters after receiving the report of the Justice (retd) N Krishnan Nair commission, set up to study the issues of workers in the plantation sector.

The state government would take necessary steps after examining the report, Ramakrishnan said.

Necessary instructions would be given to estate owners to take steps to repair the labour colonies as per the Plantation Labour Act, he added.

Last year, the state government had set up the commission to study problems faced by the ailing plantation sector.
