The month-long Kerala Jana Raksha Yatra led by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President V M Sudheeran, ahead of state assembly polls due in a few months, began at Kumbala in the district today.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy flagged off the high-profile political yatra, that would wind its way through the 140 Assembly constituencies in the state.

The Yatra would end at Thiruvananthapuram on February 9.

Main objectives of the yatra include campaign against fascism, communalism, intolerance, 'anti-people' policies of BJP led NDA government at the Centre and political violence.

Sudheeran would also highlight the achievements of the Congress led UDF government.

AICC General Secretary in charge of Kerala, Mukul Wasnik and State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala were among those present at the inaugural ceremony.
