Kerala Assembly polls: Voter turnout recorded at 28.46% till noon

Tight security has been put in place across the state with the deployment of about 52,000 police personnel from state police forces

Kerala witnessed brisk polling for the 140 Assembly constituencies with 28.46% voting recorded till noon.

According to Election Commissioner officials here, Waynad registered 31.03 polling followed by Kannur and Alappuzha which registered 30% polling while Thiruvananthapuram district recorded the lowest with 23.10%.

People were seen queueing up in various booths in the state much before the polling that began at 7 a.m despite drizzling in some parts of state.

No untoward incident was reported from any part of the state so far, police said.

Tight security has been put in place across the state with the deployment of about 52,000 police personnel from state police forces.
 

Besides them, personnel from Central Armed Police Force and Quick Response Team have also been deployed in different parts of the state.

The state has 3176 sensitive, critical and vulnerable polling booths.

A total of 21,498 polling stations are in the state and out of this 250 are fully managed by women. A total of 1203 candidates are in the fray.
