A three-day event to commemorate legendary Malayalam filmmaker and cartoonist G Aravindan, who is known for his path-breaking movies and unorthodox way of movie making, began here today.

Titled as 'Remembering Aravidan', the event is being jointly organised by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and "Chintha Ravindran Foundation," formed in memory of film-maker, critic and writer Chinta Ravindran, to mark the 25th death anniversary of Aravindan.

An exhibition of Aravindan's cartoons and photographs began at Kanakakkunnu Palace here today.

A retrospective of Aravindan's films will be held at Kalabhavan Theatre on March 14 and 15, Academy sources here said.

Film buffs will get a chance to view his iconic movies including 'Utharayanam', 'Kanchana Sita', 'Chidambaram', 'Esthappan', 'Thambu', 'Vasthuhara'and 'Kummatti' as part of the event, they said.

'Munroe Island', the film chosen for this year's Aravindan Puraskaram, would also be screened.

The 'Puraskaram' would be presented during the closing ceremony on March 15, the sources said.
