Kerala government's new tourism initiative of hop-on hop-off boat service as well as water taxi service at Kochi and Muziris heritage site is expected to start in August, state Tourism Minister A P Anilkumar said today.

Initially, it was planned to start with three 25-seater AC boats for hop-on hop-off services at Kochi heritage site, Anilkumar told reporters here.

The sites in Kochi and Muziris also would be linked with the service, he said.

"This is the first time hop-on hop-off service is being introduced in the country", he said, adding, basic idea was to provide a circular service at regaler intervals.

The hop-on hop-off services will cover places like High Court Jetty, Marine Drive, Bolgatty Palace, Vypeen, Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, he added.

Another major project in the flagship programme of tourism department to be implemented during the next two years was Spices Route project, he said.

Kerala Tourism's Spice Route project aims to share the heritage among 31 countries along the ancient route.

The initiative was expected to bring in a substantial number of foreign tourists to Kerala to trace the historic journey.

The Spice Route project will go a long way in promoting heritage and peace, he added.

Seaplane project, which was abandoned due to resistance from local fishermen community, was expected to take off in places where there was no protest later this year, he said.
