Keralite estate manager shot dead in Uganda

A pall of gloom descended on Kongad here as a 45-year-old estate manager, hailing from the village, was shot dead by burglars in Uganda.

The family members of the deceased, K Madhusoodanan here said, the information about the tragedy was passed on to them on Monday by one of their relatives, settled in that country.

Both Madhusoodanan and his aide from Gujarat were shot dead at the estate bungalow, located in Bundibugyo, they said.

Madhusoodanan, who was living in Pune with his wife Manju and two daughters, moved to Uganda just seven months ago to work in a tea and coco plantation there.
 

He last visited the ancestral home here six months back and was planning to come here later this month, family sources said.

The family had sought the help of Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi to enable them to bring the body as soon as possible, sources added.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here that the government had already made arrangements to contact the Indian Embassy in Uganda and speed up the procedures to bring back the body.
