Kerry condoles loss of lives in China quake

The US has condoled the loss of lives and property in the powerful earthquake that struck southwest China, saying America is ready to provide assistance.

"I join the American people in expressing our sincere condolences for the loss of life and devastation wrought by today's earthquake in Sichuan Province," Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement yesterday.

"The United States stands ready to support the international response to this disaster. To those affected by this tragedy and to all the people of China, we send our heartfelt sympathies," he said.
