In order to reduce power consumption, Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCO) plans to roll out energy-efficient ceiling fans which will consume half the electricty as compared to regular fans.

KESCO Media In charge R D Pandey said the department has forwarded a list of 20 consumers from every division for the 30 watt ceiling fans which consume almost half the electricity as compared to the 70-75 watt fans currently available in the market.

The central agencies are in talks with various companies for the same, Pandey said.

A consumer will be eligible to buy two fans and there is also a proposal under the scheme that will allow consumers to exchange their old fans with new ones, he said.

Each fan will help in saving more than 100 units of power per year. Their price has not been finalised yet but they will be cheaper than the fans currently available, he said.

Pandey also said that production of tube lights and other electrical components is also being discussed.

In July, the department had started selling energy-efficient LED bulbs of 7 watt at cheap prices in the market which had received a good response from consumers with 10.8 lakh bulbs being sold.
