Delhi Development Authority member and senior BJP leader Vijender Gupta on Thursday said the civic body has provided a major relief to Delhiites by dropping conversion charges in 100 top markets and relaxing norms for household industrial units in residential areas.
Gupta, also the leader of opposition, said the DDA, in a meeting chaired by Lt Governor Anil Baijal, also approved converting 81 rural villages into urban villages and raising limit of amalgamation of land plots from earlier 64 square metres to 200 square metres.
Baijal tweeted that several key decisions were taken in the meeting.
"Chaired @official_dda Authority meeting. Authority recommended modification of MPD-2021 to simplify setting up of household/service industries & liberalise mode of disposal of institutional category plots to freehold basis," he tweeted.
In another tweet, Baijal said, "Key decisions also include proposed amendments in MPD-2021 to allow amalgamation of residential plots upto 200 sqm & Extension of Time (EOT) for payment for flats booked through online scheme to facilitate allottees."
Addressing a press conference, Gupta termed the decisions a "giant leap" forward by DDA towards implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment towards ease of doing business and generation of employment.

No statement from DDA was immediately available on the claims made by Gupta.
Gupta said shop-cum-residence plots, complexes and shop plots have been exempted from paying any conversion charges in these markets.
"The sword of sealing hanging over these markets including GK-II M Block Market, Defence Colony Market, Sunder Nagar Market among others, has been removed now," he said.
The DDA has also approved major amendments in the Master Plan providing relief to household industrial units in residential areas, he said.
"The approved amendments would do away with statutory clearances from Labour and Industries Department as well as Delhi Pollution Control Committee," he claimed.
Thousands of household industrial units running in residential areas giving employment to lakhs of people, will benefit from the move, he said.
Gupta said he will meet the lt governor to request him for disbanding a high powered committee which is there for clearing applications for licences to be given to household industrial units in residential areas.
Eighty one rural villages in different parts of the city have now been declared urban ones under the DMC Act 1957, paving way for implementation of land pooling policy, and non-agricultural use of land there, he said.
