Khajuraho Dance Festival begins tomorrow

Country's one of the celebrated cultural events, the 42nd annual Khajuraho Dance Festival will commence in Chhattarpur district tomorrow.

The festival will showcase classical dances, including Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Odissi and Kuchipudi, depicting the ancient tales like - 'Mahishasur Mardini' and 'Krishna Rasa,' an official said.

The festival is being organized by Department of Culture, Madhya Pradesh, will be held against the backdrop of iconic Khajuraho temples, built by Chandela dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD, world-wide know for erotic sculptures.

The performances will be held in an open-air auditorium by renowed artists in front of the Chitragupta Temple dedicated to 'Surya' (the Sun God) and the Vishwanatha Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, in the western group of temples at Khajuraho.
 

The festival has gained international recognition with a world heritage site being its venue.

Khajuraho temples witness the maximum footfalls of foreign tourists in Madhya Pradesh, the official added.
