Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today administered the 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' pledge to the officers and officials of the Haryana Civil Secretariat at a special function organised on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, here today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, "All of us should dedicate ourselves to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the country and also strive hard to spread this message among all fellow countrymen".

Paying rich tributes to Patel, the Chief Minister said, "Sardar Patel, known as Iron Man of India, played a prominent role during the freedom struggle of the country and actively participated in building a united and independent nation".

He also recalled Patel's contribution in the merger of princely states with the Indian Union.

"The task for persuading Hyderabad and Junagarh was entrusted to Sardar Patel while responsibility to include Jammu and Kashmir was given to Jawahar Lal Nehru. Sardar Patel handled the issue better than Nehru as today, Jammu and Kashmir has a separate constitution," he said, according to an official release issue here.
