In a relief to prisoners lodged in jails across the state, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said that inmates who have been awarded rigorous imprisonment will be eligible for parole after five years, including the period they served as undertrials.
Earlier, the undertrial period was not included in the five years, which made prisoners sentenced to rigorous imprisonment eligible for parole.
Now, the undertrial period will also be counted in the five years term for obtaining parole, Khattar announced while interacting with prisoners during inspection of Bhondsi Jail here.
The chief minister inspected women barracks, legal care and support center, training and cultural center, barracks of male inmates, interacted with the inmates and expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided at the jail.
Khattar also announced relaxation of 15 days from the term for prisoners serving imprisonment upto two years, if their behaviour and conduct was found good.
Similarly, he announced 30-day relaxation in jail term for prisoners undergoing imprisonment for 2 to 5 years and 45 days relaxation for those with 5 to 10 years term.
A 60-day reduction in imprisonment was also announced for those who are serving sentence of above 10 years.
Earlier, ADGP Jail K K Mishra apprised the chief minister that the task of computerisation of jails, which began as pilot project in Bhondsi jail, has been completed in all the jails of Haryana.
He said that software creation and implementation, were both done by the prisoners.
The first phase of computerisation has been completed in all the prisons, in which fingerprints of about 80,000 prisoners have been captured in the bio-metric system, Mishra said.
He said that this will help keep and manage record of all the prisoners including their profile, type of case, next date of hearing in court, medical treatment, photograph, persons meeting them and their numbers, among others.
The chief minister said that this system should be linked with Aadhaar.
Once operational, the entire information of jail inmates will be available at a click of the mouse.
