Khattar asks officers to prepare plan for desilting of ponds

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar today directed the officers to prepare a district-wise action plan for desilting of village ponds.

He also asked them to carry out a survey to explore the possibility of developing the water bodies, lakes and aquaculture in the water-logged and low lying areas of the state.

Presiding over the 48th meeting of State Drought Relief and Flood Control Board here today, he said that a committee of experts should be constituted to look into the causes of water-logging through scientific manner.

A total of 117 new schemes were also approved by the Chief Minister to strengthen the flood control system in the state during the rainy season, an official spokesperson said, adding a sum of Rs 177.21 crore will be spent on it.
 

Khattar also reviewed the 140 ongoing schemes, worth around Rs 266 crore, for flood control and drainage of irrigation and water resources department.

Directing the Deputy Commissioners and other officials of the Irrigation department, the Chief Minister asked them to complete desilting of all canals and drains before May 2017.

He also asked the officials to set up a separate cell in Irrigation Department to study and monitor provisions about natural water flow of the state.

Reviewing the schemes of Public Health and Engineering Department, Khattar directed the officials "to take steps for providing adequate drinking water facilities during the summer season.
