Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in the state, which completes one year in office later this month, is doing good work and needs to be given time before people start passing judgement on its functioning, Union minister Birender Singh today said.

Addressing a meet-the-press programme here, Singh claimed that "people have high hopes from the present government and there is a departure from a set type of politics and it needs to be appreciated."

However, he did not want to rate the performance of the government on a scale of 1-10, and said that "these days it is (ODI captain M S) Dhoni's rating which has taken a beating.."

Hitting out at the Opposition for labelling Khattar government as "inexperienced", Singh, a prominent Jat leader from Haryana, said the government was doing good work and it needs to be given time before people can pass a judgement on its overall performance.

"You talked about inexperienced, I am watching the situation in Haryana as an analyst for the last 48 years, the power was either with the Devi Lal clan or Congress, and Congress also ultimately was limited to a clan.

"At least in BJP, this clan thing has been shown the door..CM Khattar is a nice man and if he moves ahead with a vision, there is a definite change which is happening, which may be you are not able to see, but I am," he said.

On Khattar government's 'inexperience' tag, he further quipped that "when (former CM Bhupinder Singh) Hooda became CM (in 2005), he had never been a Panch, he was not even a MLA at that time, but then he became CM (Hooda was Lok Sabha MP then) and learnt the ropes."

Singh had joined BJP a year back after serving in Congress for 42 years.

When asked that will he be ready to accept the offer of Chief Ministerialship if ever it comes his way in future, Singh replied, "look, in history, some people can only become just (Raja) Todarmal."

"I remained Todarmal and (his earlier bete noire from Congress) Bhupinder Singh Hooda became Akbar (Hooda is two time former CM of Haryana)," said Birender, who had earlier himself called as Haryana's 'tragedy king'.
