Writer-politician and media personality MP Veerendra Kumar and author Kusum Khemani were today awarded this year's Kusumanjali's Sahitya Samman for their contribution to literature in Malayalam and Hindi, respectively.
Kumar, a Rajya Sabha member, and the Chairman and Managing Director of Malayalam daily "Mathrubhumi", won the prize for his travelogue "Danube Sakshi" in which he chronicles his experiences in Europe on the shores of the river.
"The work that is being awarded, 'Danube Sakshi' (Danube as Witness) are impressions of travels through Danube-washed shores and other European countries illuminating how the history, arts and culture of Europe have been dominated by the unfolding events down the centuries featuring writers and poets, artists and scholars, popes an emperors," his citation reads.
