Kheri jail has become the first prison in Uttar Pradesh where women prisoners now have a paper recycling unit to produce paper inside jail.

On the initiatives of Kheri DM under her women-focused 'Naya Savera' programme, a paper recycling unit was set up inside jail yesterday.

The programme was launched to make the women prisoners self-dependent even after serving their jail term.

Under the programme, the Kheri women prisoners are already engaged in making file covers, basic school uniforms.

According to Kheri DM Kinjal Singh, the paper recycling unit inside jail would infuse a new confidence among the women. The unit has been procured from TARAGRAM in Madhya Pradesh.

While inaugurating the recycling unit in jail Kinjal Singh said "with the setting up of the unit, the women prisoners would be able to produce more than 200 items from recycled paper which would be marketed to bring in livelihood for the women prisoners."

Piyush Pant from TARAGRAM said a week long training would be imparted to the prisoners to operate the unit.
