Khursheed A Ganai sworn in as J&K's CIC

Retired IAS officer Khursheed A Ganai was today administered oath of office as the Chief Information Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir by Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhavan here today.

The oath taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Kumar Singh, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta among other officers of the state government.

Ganai was appointed as the state's CIC on February 27.

The Jammu and Kashmir State Information Commission had been non-functional since November, 2016 when the lone Information Commissioner Nazir Ahmed completed his term.

Out of two Information Commissioners and one CIC, S K Sharma completed his term as Information Commissioner on October 31, 2015 and Chief Information Commissioner G R Sufi on February 29, 2016.
 

The State Information Commission was established under the provisions of J&K Right to Information Act in February, 2011.
