Khurshid given report on linguistic minorities interest

The report is likely to be tabled in Parliament in the Monsoon session after it is presented to President Pranab Mukherjee in next few days.

The 48th report by the Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities presented to Khurshid today covers the period from July 2010 to June 2011 and critically reviews the status of implementation of the scheme to safeguard the linguistic minorities interest in all the States and Union Territories vis-a-vis Action-Taken-Report on the 47th report received from them.

The safeguards provided to the linguistic minorities are to ensure level playing field and equal opportunities to them. The schemes to safeguards the linguistic minorities interest includes the provision for instruction through mother tongue at the primary stage of education, provision for text-books and teachers in minority languages and the translation and publication of rules, regulations and notices.
