External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid held a meeting with his Thai counterpart Surapong Tovichakchaikul in Bangkok today, during which the two also discussed the ongoing connectivity initiatives between India, Thailand and Myanmar.
A statement from the External Affairs Ministry said the two leaders agreed for early operationalisation of the initiative to set up an India-Thailand body for enhancement of people-to-people contacts.
The initiative was agreed upon during Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's visit to India in January 2012.
"They also noted progress made towards finalisation of bilateral FTA and reiterated their commitment to conclude it at the earliest, in keeping with the understanding reached between the two Prime Ministers," the statement said.
The two ministers reviewed various aspects of bilateral relations and noted with satisfaction the steady growth in trade and commerce, defence and security, cultural relations and people-to-people contacts.
Surapong said Prime Minister Shinawatra would again visit India in December 2012 for the India-ASEAN Commemorative Summit.
"Ongoing connectivity initiatives such as the India- Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and development of Dawei port in Myanmar were discussed," the statement said.
