Gupta was rescued from a house in Dolugram town of Karimganj district at around 3 am today, police said.
However, the kidnappers who had picked up Gupta and later made a phone call to his family demanding Rs 30 lakh as ransom, managed to flee.
Gupta, who teaches economics at Katlichara's S K Roy College, had been kidnapped from Dhaleshwar on the border between Cachar and Hailakandi district on the evening of August 24 when he was riding a taxi on way from Silchar to his hometown.
His family members had yesterday lodged an FIR in this regard.
