A 12-year-old boy who was kidnapped for ransom has been rescued and a juvenile who allegedly abducted him has been apprehended, police said today.
On March 30, Sunil Kumar, a resident of West Vinod Nagar, reported to police that his son who had gone to play with his younger brother at Ambedkar Park in the afternoon did not return, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar.
A case of kidnapping was registered at the Mandawali police station.
"On April 1, the boy's family received a ransom call for Rs 50,000. It was learnt that the call was made from a telephone booth. But search in the vicinity of booth did not result in any breakthrough," Kumar said.
"On April 2, the kidnapper called to tell the family to deliver the ransom money behind a bus stand at Sarai Kale Khan. When a police team along with the complainant took position there, the kidnapper changed the place of delivery to Anand Vihar Bus Terminal," said Kumar.
When the police reached there, the place of delivery was again changed to a spot near Dabur Chowk in Kaushambi.
"When the juvenile kidnapper reached the spot along with the victim, he was apprehended," said Kumar.
The juvenile said after kidnapping the boy, he had kept him somewhere at ITO. Two SIM cards were also recovered from him, police said.
