The police today rescued a farmer from a forest in Nawada district of the state, five days after he was kidnapped for ransom, an official said.

Alok Kumar alias Santu, a well to do farmer, was abducted on April 10 from Khaira village under the Kauakol police station.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Pukar Singh said, "Kumar was kidnapped while he was returning home from his field. He was kept by kidnappers in Baraun forest. He was rescued during a search operation by the police and Special Task Force."

The kidnappers had been demanding Rs 10 lakh as ransom for releasing the farmer, he said.

The rescued farmer has been sent to a government hospital for medical check-up. He will be interrogated about the kidnappers later, Singh said.
