Kidnapping for ransom case solved; nine-year-old boy rescued

The city police detected a case of kidnapping of a nine-year-old boy for ransom here today and arrested five members of a gang, including two junior artistes working in Telugu movies.

In a joint operation, the Narayanguda Police and Commissioner's Task Force detected the kidnapping case within nine hours, traced the boy unharmed and nabbed a five-member gang responsible for the offence, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) V B Kamalasan Reddy said.

Yesterday, at about 9 PM, Sanjith, a nine-year-old boy studying in class four, along with his elder brother and a friend were returning home after tuitions, when four people dragged the victim into a vehicle and fled, the DCP said.
 

"Immediately, the victim's brother informed his parents about the offence. The victim's father Narender, who runs a medical shop lodged a complaint after which a case was registered," he said.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage revealed that around five people participated in the offence and two women were also seen in the autorickshaw used for the offence, with masks covering their their faces, Reddy said.

Four special teams were formed to trace the boy and to nab the offenders.

"Last night around midnight, the victim's father received a phone call and the caller revealed that his son died after taking medicines purchased from his medical shop, for which he wanted to take revenge against him," the police said, adding that the caller later sent an SMS demanding Rs 50 lakh as ransom to get the boy released.

In a joint operation by the Narayanguda police and task force, the autorickshaw used for the offence was traced at Panjagutta at about 5.30 AM today after which Vijay Kumar and Hemanth Kumar were taken into police custody.

The mobile phone used to make calls to the complainant was recovered from their possession.
