The city police have shifted two children, a seven-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother, to a child care centre after their mother allegedly branded them with a hot spoon.

However, no case has been registered against the woman.

Police sub-inspector P Nagarjuna said the woman, who is 35 years old, allegedly thrashed and branded her three children -- including the youngest daughter who is only one year old -- with a hot spoon for eating in her absence without her permission.

The incident took place a few days ago. After learning about it from local sources, the police shifted the two elder siblings to a child care centre yesterday, he said.

"We did not register any case in view of children's ages. The youngest daughter is just one year old and needs mother's care, so we did not send her to the child care centre," Nagarjuna told PTI.

The woman appeared to be under a lot of stress as her husband deserted her some time ago forcing her to work as a maid at Tandur, 70 km away from here, he said.
