The younger generation should be made aware of the sacrifices of freedom fighters, Union ministers Mahendra Nath Pandey and Subhash Bhamre said at an event organised by the HRD Ministry-run Kendriya Vidyalayas today.

Minister of State for HRD Pandey said, "There is need to teach the students about the heroes who made sacrifices during the freedom struggle. So that the present generation knows the sacrifices that have been made to attain independence."

Minister of State for Defence Bhamre echoed similar sentiments and said that even after independence, Indian forces were guarding borders day and night for security of the country.

Minister of State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha lauded the school children who had expressed their love for the country through paintings and art, and said any enemy, if it becomes aware of the strength of these sentiments, will not dare to even think anything evil against the country.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Commissioner Santosh Mall told the gathering that the students have prepared over one lakh greeting cards that were sent to the jawans protecting the country's borders.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar could not attend the event as he was unwell. Sources said that Javadekar has been running high fever for the past couple of days. He could not attend the NCERT's foundation day event yesterday as well.
