Kin of accident victim moves HC seeking direction to bank to

A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Chief Manager of Syndicate Bank to deposit Rs 40,000 with the interest accrued to the account of the legal heir of an accident victim.

When the plea came up before Justice R Subbaiah on February 8, Additional Government Pleader R Sanjay Gandhi took notice for and on behalf of Registrar of Court of Small Causes.

According to the counsel for legal heir Hari, his father G Ramarao succumbed to injuries, sustained in a road accident involving a MTC bus onSeptember 26,2002 at a hospital.
 

The IV Court of Small Causes awarded a compensation of Rs 6.93 lakh to the claimants.As Hari was a minor then, he could not withdraw his share of the award, i.E. Rs 1,73,250, which was deposited in the Syndicate Bank.

The court on June 11, 2011 issued the automatic renewal letter.However, the bank had not renewed the deposit and paid the interest for the period from February 24, 2013 to April 18, 2015.Hence, the present petition seeking a direction to the bank to pay the interest amount of Rs 40,000 was filed.

The amount will be very useful to pursue his higher education, R Hari of Kancheepuram district said in his petition.

Justice R Subbaiah has also issued notice to the Bank returnable within a week's time.
