Kin of deceased cop claim harassment by seniors; three booked

Family members of a police inspector, who committed suicide here, has alleged that the victim ended his life over "mental harassment" by his senior colleagues, police said today.

50-year-old inspector, attached to Ramanand Nagar police station in Jalgaon district who was under suspension allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Nashik.

The incident took place on Friday in Panchavati area here when his family returned home and saw him hanging, Panchavati Police Station In-charge Shantaram Avasare said.

In a suicide note left behind, Sadare alleged that two senior police officials of Jalgaon were "harassing" him mentally for past seven months pressurising him for fund collection, Avasare said.
 

On the complaint lodged by the victim's wife, a case has been registered under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC against the two named accused, besides one Sagar Choudhari, a sand trader, for allegedly instigating him to take the extreme step, he said.

If needed, the accused could be arrested, city Police Commissioner S Jagannathan said.
