A Lok Adalat panel here today ordered a Karnataka-based transporter and an insurance company to collectively pay Rs 34.75 lakh to the family of a businessman who lost his life in a road accident around two years back.
The three-member panel comprising Ravindra Sonawane, L M More and B L Waghmare, after going through the claim papers and submissions made by both the claimants and respondents, asked VRL Transport of Karnataka and United India Insurance company to pay Rs 34.75 lakh to the family of the victim Nitesh Kumar Jain (38).
As per the court order, the compensation is to be paid to Nitesh's wife Monica Jain (36), children Parth (10) and Yeshvi (12) and his 60-year-old mother Nirmala.

Advocate Y S Duduskar, appearing for the claimants, told the panel that the deceased ran a textile business in Mumbai.
On August 22, 2014, he was travelling in an autorickshaw in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in Thane district when a truck coming from Karnataka collided with the autorickshaw. He died in the accident.
The panel was told that Nitesh earned around Rs 30,000 per month and since he was the sole breadwinner, his family lost all support and means of livelihood after his death.
After due verification of the documents and the submissions made by the claimants' counsel as well as those of the insurance company and the transporter, the panel decided that Rs 34.75 lakh compensation should be paid to the deceased's family members.
