The family members of a man, who died in a road accident after his motorcycle was hit by a vehicle in 2011, has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 28 lakh by a motor accident claims tribunal (MACT) here.
MACT Judge Harish Dudani directed the New India Assurance Company Ltd, with which the offending Toyota Qualis vehicle was insured, to pay the compensation of Rs 28.30 lakh awarded to the kin of 41-year-old victim Mam Chand who was employed as a sweeper with the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC).
"The petitioners are thus awarded Rs 28,30,402 with interest at the rate of 9 per cent per annum from the date of filing of petition till its realisation...," the judge said.

When they reached Ferozshah Road here, a Toyota Qualis vehicle hit the motorcycle due to which both of them fell down and sustained injuries. They were taken to a hospital where Chand had expired on the same day, they had said.
Dhirender Singh, driver of the offending vehicle, had contested the plea saying that on the date of accident, his car had a deflated tyre due to which he had parked it at the extreme left side of the road.
