The family members of a private firm employee, who died in a road accident in 2011 after being hit by a car, has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 31 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
MACT Presiding Officer Arun Bhardwaj directed the Oriental Insurance Co Ltd, with which the offending car was insured, to pay the compensation of Rs 31,20,760 to the kin of 33-year-old Prem Dass who had sustained fatal injuries in a road accident.
The MACT lent credence to the testimony of an eye witness, Durgesh, who said that on the date of accident on August 26, 2011, he was going towards Palam here and the car was being driven at a fast speed and it hit Dass's motorcycle, due to which he fell down and sustained severe injuries.
"Though this witness (Durgesh) was cross-examined by the counsel for the insurance company in detail, nothing could be elicited from him to show that the accident had not taken place due to negligence of Respondent number 1 (driver)," the Tribunal said.
