A delegation led by the Bihar Scheduled Tribes Commission Chairman Babulal Tudu met the kin of the victims in the village and handed over cheques for Rs. 4.75 lakh to each of them as compensation, Tudu told reporters.

He said a tribal welfare body - Adivasi Kalyan Ashram - also informed that a child each from three affected families will be adopted for providing free education to them.

The commission members also met the four injured tribals and their families and expressed solidarity with them, he said.

Regretting that the present legislation for protection of tribals was inadequate, he demanded enactment of stringent and uniform legislation in this regard.

Meanwhile, police has arrested eight persons in connection with the firing incident even as main accused Yadav was absconding. An FIR was lodged against 15 persons in this connection, police said.
