The husband of a 33-year-old woman, who allegedly committed suicide, was arrested after her relatives spotted injuries on her body just before conducting her final rites in Bhiwandi here, police said today.
Relatives of the victim, identified as Rubina, saw several scars and beating injuries on her body before her burial in Dolkhamb village yesterday. Following this they stalled the rites and took the body for postmortem, Inspector S G Kale of Padgha Police Station said.
After the autopsy, the victim's husband, Suleman Shaikh (34) was arrested and charged under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of IPC.

He was produced before a Magistrate today and remanded in police custody for two days, Kale said.
Shaikh and Rubina was married in 2001. He allegedly had illicit relation with another woman which led to frequent quarrels between the couple, police said.
On June 18, after a similar altercation, Rubina, who worked as a labourer, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison, they said.
