Kingpin in pirated DVD racket held

An alleged kingpin in the illegal production, distribution of DVDs of new Tamil movies in domestic and international grey markets with a network of accomplices in cinema houses in Tamil Nadu has been detained under the Goondas Act, police said today.

S Valayapathi, 54-year old resident of Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar District was detained on the orders of the District Collector following action initiated by CB-CID's Video Piracy Cell.

He had allegedly indulged in illegal recordings of the new films in the movie halls in Coimbatore, Karur, Theni, Madurai and Virudhunagar.

Such recordings were copied in CDs and DVDs and later distributed in grey markets in the state, Malaysia and Singapore.
 

By using advanced technology he was uploading the such movies in the websites administered from foreign countries.

He was also allegedly indulging in selling pornographic DVDs, police said.
