Pune's Nitten Kirrtane and Jayesh Pungaliya and Mumbai's Shabaaz Khan moved into the quarter-finals of the MSLTA-ATT Tennis Tournament (M3) organised by Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association here today.

Old warhorse and qualifier Kirrtane gave a lesson in tennis to junior Nikshep Ballekere Ravikumar before outplaying him 6-1 6-2, while Shahbaaz proved too strong for wild card Anvit Bendre, winning 6-4 6-2.

Top-seeded Vishnu Vardhan was unable to finish his first round match after complaining of exhaustion and conceded his match to unseeded Pungliya after the latter claimed the first set 6-4.

In the closest match of the day, S D Prajwal Dev got past upcoming Aryan Goveas when the latter retired from the match due to stomach pain when the score read 6-7(4) 6-2 6-5 in Dev's favour.

It was a comfortable day for the other seeds as they took their appointed place in the draw.

Second seed Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash out-slugged Suraj Prabodh 6-1 7-6(7), third seed Ranjeet Virali Murugesan defeated Rohan Bhatia 6-3 6-1 and fourth seed Kunal Anand led 6-2 against Paramveer Singh Bajwa before the latter conceded the match.

Siddharth Vishwakarma got the better of Niki Kaliyande 6-2 7-6(1) in yet another pre-quarterfinal tie.
