"Riverdale" star KJ Apa has been signed on to star in "The Hate U Give" after Kian Lawley was dropped from the project.
The 20-year-old star replaced Lawley after he was fired from the Fox film in February when a video of the actor making racial slurs surfaced online.
The project finished shooting in November last year, but the studio decided to conduct reshoots to remove Lawley's portions from the movie.
"The Hate U Give" is based on the young adult novel by Angie Thomas, which follows Starr (Amandla Stenberg), a young woman drawn who turns to activism after she witnesses the police shooting her unarmed friend.
Apa will now play Starr's boyfriend in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. It also features Regina Hall, Common, Issa Rae and Anthony Mackie.
The release date is yet to be announced.
