Power generation in Unit 1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tirunelveli district was suspended today for annual maintenance, a senior official said.
"The unit 1, which has been generating 600 MWe, will be shut down for 60 days for maintenance and refueling outage. When it resumes, the unit will produce 1000 MWe electricity," Site Director RS Sundar said.
The first unit had produced 6873 million units of power till 7 am of June 24, with the turbine generator "remaining in service for a cumulative period of 9267 hours," he said in a statement.

The reports in this regard had been submitted for Regulatory review and "review process is in progress.
