: The Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) 2018, beginning on December 12, will feature 95 artist projects and 'infra-projects', a model that was non-existent in the previous three editions of India's largest contemporary art event, the organisers said here Wednesday.

The Biennale's infra-projects are novel assemblages of artworks put together by external curators within the framework and spirit of the Biennale, they said in a release.

Five such projects have been included in the Biennale by invitation of Anita Dube, the curator and artistic director of the festival ending on March 29 next year, it said.

The upcoming KMB is also the world's first bienniale exhibition to have women, totalling more than half the number of participating artists, the release said.

It has also expanded the exhibition model to include an interactive pavilion, which permits visitors to share and initiate dialogue, as a learning experiment.

"In addition, the majority of the artists are from the global South, decentralising focus that can often be skewed to the West," it added.
