A Kolkata Municipal Corporation engineer was suspended today, two days after the Calcutta High Court expressed dismay over the KMC's failure to act against illegal constructions and gave the corporation 15 days to state what measures it the civic body was going to take.
A senior KMC official said Borough Assistant Engineer, KMC Building Department, Tapas Laha was suspended by Municipal Commissioner Khalil Ahmed today in connection with reports of 18 illegal constructions having made in Cossipore area in the city's northern parts.
A Division Bench of the HC had sought to know what steps the KMC undertook on taking up petitions relating to 18 illegal constructions at Cossipore area in the city's northern parts and asked the Municipal Commisssioner to file an affidavit.
KMC Mayor Sovon Chatterjee later told reporters the corporation will do everything required to stop illegal construction and comply with the HC directive.
