Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) health department officials led by M,MIC (health) Atin Ghosh today conducted checks at the SSKM hospital to see if there were any dumps serving as breeding grounds of mosquito larvae.

During the checks, the team found two dumps, one at the hostel of the College of Nursing and another at the labour quarters, where mosquito larvae was found and destroyed.

"We have informed the hospital superintendent and the PWD officials posted there about the condition inside the hospital. We will also be writing to the state health department about our findings. We cannot allow mosquito to breed inside the premises of a hospital," said Ghosh.

He said similar checks would be conducted at all hospitals in the city and other M,MICs would also take part in the checks.

"We will also conduct an awareness campaign soon inside the SSKM hospital complex to make the staff and people aware about the possible breeding grounds of mosquito," Ghosh added.
