The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has said it will give cash awards to Durga puja committees in the city that will be found to have taken dengue prevention measures in their respective areas.
KMC member, Mayor-in-Council, Atin Ghosh said seven puja committees will be chosen from as many areas for undertaking dengue prevention measures and creating awareness in their respective localities on the five festive days beginning from October 15 and in the run-up to the puja days.
"The puja committees will take cleanliness drive in the neighbourhood, keep roads litter-free, and display poster campaigns to prevent dengue by suggesting certain measures for local people and thousands of visitors thronging the pandals, Ghosh, who is in-charge of health, said yesterday.
He said while there will be 60 per cent marks for dengue prevention steps for the puja committee, the rest 40 per cent will be alloted for beautiful illumination.
Seven selected puja committees from north Kolkata, central Kolkata, east Kolkata, Gardenreach, Khidderpore, Behala and Jadavpore will be given one award each.
The amount of the prize money will be announced later.
