Kolkata marathon gets AIMS certification

The second edition of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Full Marathon has attained qualification status of a major International race from AIMS.

Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) is a member-based organisation of more than 400 world's leading distances races from over 100 countries.

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, who is the Face of the event, will flag off all four race categories including Full Marathon, Half Marathon, the Timed 10K and 5K Hope Run on February 4 at Red Road.

Over 8,000 participants including 1000 Army men and 1000 police personnel will run across different categories in the Rs 10 lakh prize money event.
 

Local runner Pooja Jain who aims to break the Guinness Book of World Record and attempt for the Best of India Record will run in a saree.

"We are extremely proud and honoured to receive the AIMS certification for our IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Full Marathon. We aim to not only promote distance running but also offer runners and athletes a platform through which they can qualify for International marathons," Karthik Raman, CMO, IDBI Federal Life Insurance stated in a release.

"Participating in an AIMS-certified marathon motivates runners to target and achieve their best finish time," Nagaraj Adiga, race director said.
